Poem - The Firetails Nest

Tweet pipes the robin as the cat creeps by
Her nestling young that in the elderns lie
And bluecap tiitles in its glee
Picking the files from blossomed apple tree
And pink the chaffinch cries its well known strain

Urging its mate to utter pink again
While in a quiet mood hedgsparrows tries
An inward stir of shadowed melody
While on the rotten tree the firetail mourns
As the old hedger to his soil returns

And chop the grain to stop the cap close bye
The hole where her blue eggs in safety lie
Of every thing that stirs she dreamth wrong
And pipes her 'tweet tut' fears the whole day long

A poem by the 19th century Northampton poet, John Clare.

Reading the poems of John Clare, i tried to visualise what he saw around Northamptonshire, having this feeling and illusion of being in the British countryside environment in the 19th century and hearing the sounds of British wild birds.

This poem captures the emotional moment of what living in nature is like for wild animals. it suggests the beauty of nature as well as its fight for survival.
